The mission of the Honor Guard is to set the standard for Honor Guard formations specifically focused on honoring those who fought and died during the American Civil War. Trained per the United States Army Regulations of 1861, the National Honor Guard Academy and the United States Army’s Training Circular (TC) 3-21.5 Drill and Ceremonies, the Honor Guard aims to participate in ceremonious functions across the country, with specific focus on the American Civil War. The Honor Guard will participate in Reviews, Parades, Honor Guards, Funerals and Color Presentations specific but not limited to the American Civil War.
The B.M.I. has a two primary goals. Educate the general public and other historians about the B.M.I. established in 1863 and how it turned the tide of the war for the Army of the Potomac; and to provide Federal Command Staff at reenactments with an immersive experience pertaining to intelligence preparation of the battlefield by providing topographical maps of the event area, engaging in real-time scouting and reconnaissance operations, and to provide intelligence pertaining to troop movements, disposition and unit identification during scenarios.
The ROTC Podcast provides a platform for the Gettysburg Guard to make its generational commitment to remembering, honoring, preserving and educating. The podcast currently houses three unique series; Civil War 101, The ORs and Reenacting 101. Building a foundational understanding of the basics in Civil War 101 then leads into deep-dive discussions in a casual debate format with the ORs. Reenacting 101 aims to assist those wanting to get started in reenacting / living history and provide lessons to elevate knowledge and experience to enhance participation at events.
Want to join the Guard but not participate with the Honor Guard or the B.M.I.? There is an opportunity to participate and be a member of the Guard. The Guard will need support personnel in order to achieve overall success. The Auxiliary will be comprised of members who wish to participate and support the Guard but not partake in the actual Honor Guard or B.M.I. Living History. Mission success for the Guard at events will require logistical support and help with planning and coordination, as well as the utilization of social media platforms to promote the Guard. Auxiliary members, if they choose, may attend the Guard's Honor Guard Academy and earn the coveted Badge of the Guard, but it is not a requirement.
Make a difference with a 501(c)(3) focused on honoring, remembering, education and preservation. The Honor Guard, the B.M.I. Living History, the Rally on the Colors Podcast and the Auxiliary needs you! Help us to remember and honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great Nation through education and preservation efforts.
